INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING
NATURAL CALM
I am writing detailed
instructions for using
NATURAL CALM because there
are some concepts about
taking this product that are
unusual. If you would like
to print this the easiest
way is to copy and paste
just the text into Word,
wordpad or notepad and then
print.
1. The first rule is that
you must stop taking any
other calcium or magnesium
supplement temporarily! Less
than 200mg such as in most
multivitamin-minerals is
okay.
This is very often
misunderstood or ignored as
unimportant but calcium
will block the absorption of
magnesium! If you try
taking NATURAL CALM with
calcium supplements,
especially at the same time
of the day, the calcium will
block the absorption and the
magnesium will go on into
the colon instead of being
absorbed. Excess magnesium
in the colon will cause a
laxative effect. Similarly,
if you are taking other
magnesium supplements there
will be too much magnesium
for the body to absorb and
you will also get a laxative
effect. If you are taking a
calcium/magnesium
combination the effect is
even worse. In many cases
the calcium supplement is
partly responsible for your
magnesium deficiency to
begin with! So for the first
two weeks at least, do
not take any other calcium,
magnesium or
calcium/magnesium
combination supplements.
Stopping calcium supplements
for a couple of weeks should
not be a problem and because
NATURAL CALM helps the body
absorb calcium you will be
getting more calcium from
your diet than you were
anyway.
2. Use HOT water. Very hot
tap water is usually
sufficient but it is
important to use hot water
so the NATURAL CALM
dissolves completely. This
is one reason it is absorbed
so well.
3. The third rule is to
start slow. The ability to
absorb magnesium will vary
quite a bit from person to
person. Many people also
have problems with
absorption related to other
conditions. If you have
problems absorbing even
small amounts of NATURAL
CALM (get a strong laxative
effect) then you may have an
unhealthy intestinal tract.
If that is the case you may
email us for information on
nutrition to rapidly improve
intestinal health. If
intestinal problems prevent
you from using NATURAL CALM
normally at first, you can
also email us and request an
additional 30 days on your
guarantee so that you will
have time to try NATURAL
CALM properly. Before you
assume that you have
absorption problems make
sure you are not taking
calcium. Did you notice
that I emphasize this? Some
people may even need to
limit their amounts of
calcium rich foods like
dairy products for a short
time. Start with 1/3-1/2
level teaspoon.
4. The fourth rule is to
take enough. Some people
will require much more than
others (up to 3
tablespoons). The proper way
to take NATURAL CALM is to
keep increasing the amount
you take each night until
you start getting a
noticeable laxative effect.
This means you are absorbing
almost all of the magnesium
and the extra is acting as a
laxative. Having a laxative
effect, even a strong one,
does not mean
something is wrong, it only
means you are not absorbing
it all. You can back the
dose down slightly so you
get little or no laxative
effect. That is the amount
you need to take. This
amount can change over time,
especially once your body
starts to "catch up" on the
amount of magnesium it
needs.
5. If you are getting enough
NATURAL CALM you should be
able to immediately feel the
relaxation effect and sleep
better. This is not usually
so subtle it is hard to
tell. You should be able to
do this with no significant
laxative effect although
most people notice they are
more regular with NATURAL
CALM. Most people will
notice they are more relaxed
throughout the day as well.
For me the most noticeable
daytime effect was not
getting nearly so tense over
traffic delays. This was
quite striking, so watch for
changes in attitude and
anxiety like that. IF
NATURAL CALM WORKS FOR YOU,
THIS MEANS YOU ARE DEFICIENT
IN MAGNESIUM. SO TAKE IT
REGULARLY TO GET YOUR
MAGNESIUM LEVELS UP, NOT
JUST WHEN YOU CAN’T SLEEP.
6. Some people seem to do
best with just NATURAL CALM
and seem to get enough
calcium from their diet once
they are on NATURAL CALM. As
long as NATURAL CALM is
working well for you stick
with it. Most people though
will notice at some point
that it is not working quite
as well as it did at first.
This simply means that you
have restored magnesium
levels and now need to
find a balance of calcium
and magnesium. The
same company makes
effervescent CAL-MAG and
CALM PLUS CALCIUM which will
supply calcium and magnesium
together. With a little
experimenting almost anyone
can find the balance of
calcium and magnesium they
need. It is surprisingly
easy to tell when your
calcium and magnesium levels
are correct, you feel more
relaxed and sleep better!
Some people opt to take
NATURAL CALM at night and
their regular calcium
supplement in the morning
(once they have "caught up"
on magnesium with just
NATURAL CALM). This can work
well for some people. The
way you judge if you have
the right balance is if you
have the same relaxation and
ability to sleep well that
you experienced when first
starting on NATURAL CALM,
without any excessive
laxative effect.
NOTE ON THE NEW FLAVORS:
You will find that the new
flavors of Natural Calm fizz
up even more than the
original. Use a large enough
cup or glass. I like the
original the best but I have
always liked tart flavors
anyway. If you try one of
the new flavors I suggest
trying Sweet Lemon first,
it’s very good. Natural
Vitality also now offers
“Mama Calm”, “Kids Calm” and
“Baby Calm”. These are very
good products also. My
grandsons often ask me for
Natural Calm before going to
bed because even at six and
four they recognize that it
helps them calm down and go
to sleep easily (and thus
avoid getting in trouble
with their parents). They
enjoy the new flavors but
the oldest often wants the
“real” Natural Calm like
Grandad drinks (original
flavor). Don’t hesitate to
give normal, healthy
children Natural Calm, just
start with low doses. About
1/8 teaspoon for a toddler,
¼ teaspoon for a young child
(4-8) and ½ teaspoon for an
older child. Add a dash of
hot water then cold orange
juice once it dissolves. If
there are no laxative
effects you can raise the
amount slowly. If they don’t
seem to be responding as
well after a while the same
rule applies, start
alternating with Calm Plus
Calcium or Cal-Mag instead.
